“Mi fido di te”, disse il cane

Quando vengo chiamata da un cliente, spesso capita che il motivo sia quello di risolvere un problema unico: il cane abbaia, il cane che mi ha distrutto il divano, il cane che mi ha mangiato le scarpe. Ci sono tanti addestratori -il cui metodo non condivido- che vi diranno che con un paio di incontri il problema andrà a sparire.
Non può essere così.
Non è possibile a meno che non si utilizzino metodi decisamente diversi da quelli cognitivi-comportamentali che noi di Dogdeliver amiamo perchè rispettano nella totalità il suo essere cane.

Ricordiamoci sempre che il cane è un essere pensante.
Impara e apprende. Basta avere tempo, pazienza, costanza, dedizione.
Quindi se c’è un problema evidente come quelli elencati qui sopra, allora quello è solitamente il sintomo di qualche altra problematica. E qualunque essa sia ci vorrà non solo la conoscenza da parte eventualmente di un educatore, ma importante sarà il vostro impegno e come vi porrete nella specifica situazione.

Dobbiamo sempre ricordarci che i nostri cani vivono delle nostre esperienze, dei nostri umori e dei nostri atteggiamenti. Siamo noi che sin dal principio li portiamo ad essere un po’ i nostri “terapeuti”: ci confidiamo con loro, piangiamo con loro, se siamo tristi non lo nascondiamo, e se siamo felici glielo dimostriamo attraverso svariati modi.

Questi nostri cambi di atteggiamento vengono vissuti dal cane come uno tzunami di emozioni. Spesso li destabilizza. E probabilmente al nostro rientro dal lavoro si porranno la domanda: “oggi sarà triste, felice o arrabbiato ? Oppure sarà tranquillo?”
.
Questo può comportare -soprattutto se sono molto giovani o nell’età adolescenziale- problemi legati a insicurezza, incoerenza, mancanza di equilibrio.
.
Non voglio dire che si debba arrivare a cambiare il nostro modo di essere, no. Ma certamente si può imparare ad essere più costanti e più presenti nella relazione che riguarda noi e il nostro cane. Non noi, il cane e il lavoro. Noi il cane e la partita di pallone. Noi il cane e il resto del mondo.
Dare un equilibrio al nostro amico a quattro zampe sarà una delle cose più grandi che potremo fare nel binomio uomo-cane.
E lo si può fare attraverso la coerenza. Sarete in grado di trasmettergli qualsiasi cosa e sarete anche liberi di essere voi stessi sempre.

In che senso?
.
Il cane non conosce l’eccezione. Se una volta lo faccio salire sul divano, da quel momento lui saprà di poterlo fare sempre. Se al mio rientro dal lavoro gli andrò incontro facendogli mille feste, da quel momento lui capirà che il distacco è stato doloroso anche per me, e quindi si concederà di “impazzire di gioia” al vostro rientro e “impazzire di tristezza” alla vostra dipartita.
Questo è molto molto importante da sapere nell’educazione del cane.
E’ estremamente importante che abbia dei punti fermi, stabili e continui nel vostro rapporto.

Quello che a me piace fare con Pepe, il mio cane, è stabilire dei rituali tutti nostri.
Rituali che mai vengono delusi, cascasse il mondo!
.
Cercate di creare i vostri. E fate in modo che restino tali comunque sia andata la giornata, qualunque giorno dell’anno sia.
Non cambiateli, non deludeteli.
Può essere la passeggiata in un parco, o stabilire un giorno alla settimana da dedicare al gioco, o il weekend portarlo a fare una passeggiata olfattiva in un bosco o in un parco.
Qualsiasi cosa può andare bene, basta che ci sia la continuità, e la costanza: la migliore amica nella relazione uomo-cane.
Il vostro cane deve sapere di potersi fidare di voi, deve sapere che qualunque cosa succeda al mondo lui potrà affidarsi a voi. Ed è mantenendo un comportamento coerente con loro che glielo permetterete.
Scoprirete quanto è grande il loro cuore e quanto sia grande la loro dedizione nei vostri confronti.
E’ vero che non parlano, e non si lamentano, ma provano esattamente come noi tutti quei sentimenti legati alla delusione, alla tristezza, alla noncuranza.
Cerchiamo quindi di non fare a loro quello che non vorremmo mai che venisse fatto a noi dal nostro migliore amico.
